Samual changed his name to Charles Samuals when he came from Lithuania to Southampton. He met his wife in Fareham. He lived in Plymouth where he married at 24 but moved to Exeter around 1884. He lived at The Ceders, St. Leonard, Exeter which was the family home but it is recorded that he died at 17 Penleonard Close, Exeter.According to Judith Hornung he moved from The Cedars shortly before he died. He was president of the Exeter Hebrew Congregation for 58 years, from 1886 to 1944, at the synagogue in Mary Arches Street. |
